COVID-19 impact on electricity
The International Energy Agency, the International Energy Agency, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and the United Nations Statistics Division in their joint seventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG7) report that the COVID-19 has deprived millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa of access to electricity. The negative impact of the outbreak on the region’s economy has made more than 30 million people in the region unable to buy electricity.

Electricity usage in Africa
The 230-page report of SDG7 notes that energy efficiency improvements and the speed needed to electrify heating and transportation are so inadequate that the global spread of clean cooking facilities seems a bit of a distant dream. Of the 20 countries with the fewest clean cooking facilities in the world, half are in sub-Sahara Africa. Only one out of every 100 Malagasy and Ugandans has access to these facilities.
