What is AuReus system?
Imagine it, food scraps can be made into transparent photovoltaic panels. What’s more, the transparent photovoltaic panels can generate power nearly 50 percent of the time, compared with 15 to 22 percent for standard solar panels. Because traditional solar energy relies on visible light, but this material gets its energy from ultraviolet light. As we all know, there are ultraviolet rays on a cloudy day, otherwise where does our dark skin come from? When applied to windows or facades as a fluorescent covering, AuReus captures ultraviolet light reflected from sidewalks and surrounding buildings, turning the entire building into a vertical solar power generator.
How does it work?
Inventor Maigue uses luminescent particles derived from discarded crops. He extracts bioluminescent particles from certain fruits and vegetables, and then crushes them and extracts the juice, filter, distilled or soaks them. The particles are melted into the resin, and then the substrate is formed as a cladding layer, sandwiched between the double glasses. Finally, these particles convert ultraviolet light into visible light, which is then reflected off the edge of the panel. “The light depends on the internal reflection of the material to correct itself and orient itself towards the emission edge,” says Maigue. Eventually, the visible light is captured and converted into electricity by a regular series of photovoltaic cells, similar to ordinary solar energy.
As a result, Carvey Ehren Maigue’s AuReus system was awarded the first James Dyson Award for global sustainability.
Where can I buy solar panels?
